Victory in Doha !!! IJSO – 2019, Qatar!

The bronze medal is ours!

This year IJSO – The International Junior Scientists Olympiad was held in Doha, the capital of Qatar. IJSO – This is one of the most challenging Olympiads in the world, held in 3 natural sciences: physics, chemistry and biology. The Olympiad lasts for 10 days and are held in three rounds. Students compete with each other in test, theoretical and experimental assignments.  Team leaders are involved in selecting and translating the Olympiad assignments, though all participants must be fluent in English. This year the Olympiad had a record number of countries – 70. The performance of our team is rather brilliant since Georgians won the bronze medal!

The Georgian team was fully composed by X grade students of Georgian-American High School (since the age of the participants should not exceed 16 years).

It consisted of

  • Mariam Katamashvili

  • Mikheil Sepashvili

  • Alexander Kokiauri

  • Luka Mchedlidze

  • Nano Kantidze

  • Luka Zukhbaia

It should be noted that the result shown this year is the best in our team’s history (Georgia has been participating at IJSO since 2016). Obviously, the STEM textbooks issued by our school, which were based on IJSO’s previous tasks, played a big role in this. This made our team training systematic and the results did not last long. The next Olympiad will be held in Frankfurt, Germany, from which our team has already received the invitation. There will be 50 participating countries in Germany and their selection was based on the results shown in previous years. It should be noted that the Honorary Chairman of IJSO – 2020 will be the President of Germany, Mr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
